List Of Airports In India

Airports (International as well as Domestic) in India are managed by Airports Authority of India (AAI). AAI works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India. Airport Authority of India provides Air Traffic Management (ATM) services over Indian Airspace and adjoining oceanic areas. Apart from controlling the Domestic and International Airports, AAI also controls the Customs Airport and Civil Enclaves at military bases.

Training Establishments of AAI


Airport Authority of India has established four training facilities. The name of which are as follows :

  - The Civil Aviation Training College (CATC) at Allahabad.
  - National Institute of Aviation Management and Research (NIAMAR) at Delhi.
  - Fire Training Centre (FTC) at Kolkata and Delhi.
  - At each headquarters, separate Regional Training Centres.

2) Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport  -  Amritsar  -  Punjab

The airport 'Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport' is named after Guru Ram Dass Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru and the founder of Amritsar City.

3) Chandigarh International Airport  -  Chandigarh  -  Punjab

Chandigarh International Airport serves the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Chandigarh capital region including Panchkula, Mohali and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana.


4) Anna International Airport Chennai Tamil Nadu

Anna International Airport is also known as the Chennai International Airport which serves the city of Chennai and its metropolitan area.

5) Coimbatore International Airport  -  Coimbatore Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore International Airport is the primary airport and serves the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

Tiruchirapalli is the international airport situated in the heart of Tiruchirapalli and serves the city of Tiruchirapalli in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.

Madurai Airport was established in 1957 and is known as the customs airport which serves Madurai and its surrounding districts in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

8) Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport  -  Kolkata  West Bengal

As per the reports, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is India's fifth-busiest airport by the overall passenger traffic. It's an international airport situated in Kolkata, West Bengal and serves the Kolkata Metropolitan Area.

9) Bagdogra Airport  Siliguri West Bengal

Bagdogra Airport is a customs airport which serves the cities of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in northern West Bengal. Air traffic at Bagdogra Airport once crossed 1 million for the first time in 2014-15. This is one of the few airports in India with zero sales tax on aviation turbine fuel.

10) Dimapur Airport Dimapur  -  Nagaland

Dimapur Airport is a civil airport which is located at Dimapur in the Indian state of Nagaland and it was built during World War II. This airport is located at a 3rd mile. It acts as a gateway in the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland.

11) Calicut International Airport  -  Karipur  -  Kerala

Calicut International Airport, also known as Karipur Airport, is an international airport which serves the cities of Kozhikode and Malappuram. The airport was first opened on 13 April 1988. It also operates as an operating base for Air India Express.


12) Trivandrum International Airport  -  Thiruvananthapuram  -  Kerala

Trivandrum International Airport was the fifth international airport of India declared by the then Prime Minister of India, V. P. Singh in the year 1991. It is an international airport which primarily serves the city of Thiruvananthapuram and its adjacent towns. It is the first operating airport in the state of Kerala, India.

13) Cochin International Airport  Kochi  -  Kerala

It is an international airport which serves the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. The Cochin International Airport is India's seventh-busiest airport by overall passenger traffic.

14) Bir Tikendrajit International Airport  -  Imphal  -  Manipur

Imphal Airport or Bir Tikendrajit International Airport is the third busiest airport in the north east region and the second largest airport built in the Northeastern region of India, after the airport in Guwahati.

15) Silchar Airport  -  Kumbhirgram  -  Assam

Silchar Airport is located at Kumbhirgram which is 29 km from the city of Silchar in the state of Assam, India and built by the British as RAF Station Kumbhirgram in 1944. After which it was transferred to the Royal Indian Air Force. This airport is also a Civil enclave airport as it is under the control of the Indian Air Force.

16) Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport Guwahati  -  Assam

It is also known as Guwahati International Airport and formerly as 'Borjhar Airport'. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is the primary international airport in the North-Eastern States of India.

17) Veer Savarkar International Airport  -  Port Blair  -  Andaman and Nicobar Island

Veer Savarkar International Airport is also known as the Port Blair Airport. It's a type of custom airport and the main airport of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India. This airport is named after Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

18) Diu Airport Diu  Daman and Diu

Diu Airport is a type of civilian aerodrome (an aerodrome or airdrome is a location from which aircraft flight operations take place. Aerodromes include small general aviation airfields, large commercial airports, and military airbases.) located at Diu in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, India. Besides Diu, it also serves the neighboring areas of Gujarat which includes the Veraval and the Jafrabad.

19) Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad Telangana

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the sixth-busiest airport by overall passenger traffic in India. It is an international airport which serves Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana.

20) Begumpet Airport Hyderabad  -  Telangana

Begumpet Airport is also known as the Hyderabad Old Airport. It's a civil enclave located in Begumpet, which is a part of Secunderabad, Telangana. This airport is home to the Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy and the Begumpet Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force.

21) Vijayawada Airport Vijayawada  -  Andhra Pradesh

It is a public international airport serving the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh's Capital Region. Vijayawada Airport is located at Gannavaram in Vijayawada, where the National Highway 16 passes through connecting Chennai to Kolkata.

22) Vishakhapatnam Airport  -  Vishakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh

It is an international airport located in Visakhapatnam. Vishakhapatnam Airport is the largest and the busiest airport in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This airport also operates as a civil enclave on an Indian Navy air base which is named as INS Dega. Mainly it is located in between the city localities of NAD Cross Road and Gajuwaka.


23) Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport  -  Lucknow Uttar Pradesh

This airport serves Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is situated in the Amausi area of Lucknow and was earlier known as the Amausi Airport before being renamed after the fifth prime minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

24) Agra Civil Enclave  -  Agra  -  Uttar Pradesh

Agra Airport is a military airbase and the public airport which serves the city of Agra, located in the indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This air force station is one of the largest airbases of the Indian Air Force and has been known synonymous with the Taj Mahal for over half a century.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport is a public airport located at Babatpur in the northwest of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was formerly known as the Varanasi Airport and then in October 2015 it was officially renamed after Lal Bahadur Shastri, the 2nd Prime Minister of India.

26) Jolly Grant Airport  -  Dehradun  -  Uttrakhand

Jolly Grant Airport which is also known as Dehradun Airport is a domestic airport, located in the southeast of Dehradun, Uttrakhand in India. It is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.

27) Lengpui Airport  -  Aizawl  -  Mizoram

Lengpui Airport is a domestic airport located in the city of Aizawl, Mizoram, India. The airport is connected by daily flights with the airport in Guwahati and the airport in Kolkata and three flights a week with Imphal.

28) Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport  -  Ahmedabad  Gujarat

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is the eighth-busiest airport by overall passenger traffic in India. It is an international airport which serves the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in the indian state of Gujarat. This airport is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India.

29) Vadodara Airport  -  Vadodara Gujarat

This airport is a civilian airport which is located in the north-east of Vadodara, Gujarat, India in the suburb of Harni. It is the third busiest airport in Gujarat after the airport of Ahmedabad and Surat in terms of aircraft movements and passenger traffic.

30) Porbandar Airport  -  Porbandar  Gujarat

It is a public airport in Porbandar, Gujarat, India. In Porbandar Airport, apart from its civilian operations it also has a military presence in the form of INAS 310 and INAS 343 of the Indian Navy and CGAE Porbandar of the Indian Coast Guard.

31) Civil Enclave Jamnagar Airport  -  Jamnagar  Gujarat

The Jamnagar Airport is officially known as the Civil Enclave Jamnagar Airport, which is an airport in the city of Jamnagar in Gujarat, India. It is wholly owned by the Indian Air Force and also permits both commercial as well as private flights.

32) Surat Airport  -  Surat  Gujarat

It is a customs airport which is located in Magdalla, in the southwest of Surat in the western Gujarat, India with a total geographical area of 770 acres. Surat Airport is the second busiest airport in Gujarat after Ahmedabad in terms of both aircraft movements and passenger traffic.


33) Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport  -  Leh  Jammu and Kashmir

It is an airport in Leh, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the 22nd highest commercial airport in the world at a height of 3,256 meters above mean sea level. This airport is named after the 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, who was an Indian statesman as well as monk and whose Spituk Monastery is in direct vicinity to the airfield.

34) Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport  -  Srinagar  Jammu and Kashmir

This Airport is also known by the name Srinagar Airport, which is an international airport serving Srinagar, the summer capital of the indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is wholly owned by the Indian Air Force, and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) operates a civil enclave at this airport.

35) Kempegowda International Airport  -  Bengaluru  Karnataka

Kempegowda International Airport is the third-busiest airport by overall passenger traffic in India. It is an international airport which serves Bengaluru, the capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka. This airport is spread over 4,000 acres and is located about 40 kilometres in the north of the city near the village of Devanahalli.

36) Mangalore International Airport  -  Mangaluru  Karnataka

It is an international airport which serves the coastal city of Mangaluru, India. Mangalore International Airport is one of the only two international airports in Karnataka, the other being Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore. This airport is the second busiest airport in Karnataka.

37) Jodhpur Airport  -  Jodhpur  Rajasthan

It is a civil enclave airport in the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India. Jodhpur Airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India and shares its airside with the Jodhpur Air Base of the Indian Air Force.

38) Bikaner Airport  -  Nal  Rajasthan

Nal Airforce Station, is also known as Bikaner Air Force Station and is located 13 kilometres west of Bikaner in the indian state of Rajasthan. The civil enclave within this airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India and regular scheduled flight under UDAN scheme were inaugurated in the year 2017.

39) Jaipur International Airport  -  Jaipur  Rajasthan

It is the primary airport which serves Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Jaipur International Airport has been declared as the World's Best Airport in the category of 2 to 5 million passengers per annum for 2015 & 2016 according to the reports of Airports Council International.

40) Zaruki International Airport  -  Shillong  Meghalaya

Zaruki International Airport is also known as Umroi Airport or Shillong Airport, which is a civilian airport located at Umroi, 30 km away from Shillong in Meghalaya, India.

41) Biju Patnaik Airport  -  Bhubaneswar  Odisha

Biju Patnaik Airport, also named as the Bhubaneswar Airport, is the primary international airport which serves Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. It is named after Biju Patnaik, the former chief minister of Odisha, who was also a famed aviator and a freedom fighter.

42) Jharsuguda Airport  -  Durlaga  Odisha

This Airport is located in the north-east of Jharsuguda in Indian state of Odisha. The Jharsuguda upgraded airport was inaugurated by the PM of India, Shri Narendra Modi on 22nd September 2018.


43) Raja Bhoj Airport  -  Bhopal  Madhya Pradesh

This Airport is the primary airport which serves Bhopal in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is located in Gandhi Nagar area which lies in the north-west of Bhopal city centre on National Highway 12. Raja Bhoj Airport is the second busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh.

44) Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport  -  Indore  Madhya Pradesh

It is a custom airport that principally serves the city of Indore and the adjacent regions in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport is the busiest airport in Central India and is located in the west of Indore.

45) Gwalior Airport  -  Gwalior  Madhya Pradesh

It is a civil enclave airport at the Maharajpur Air Force Station in the north-east of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. The Gwalior Airport is one of the four airports in Madhya Pradesh.

46) Jabalpur Airport  -  Dumna  Madhya Pradesh

The airport is also known as the Dumna Airport, which is situated in the east of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Jabalpur Airport is the third busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh after Indore Airport and Bhopal Airport. This airport is very important as it serves the whole of eastern Madhya Pradesh, including the Mahakaushal region.

47) Kullu Manali Airport  -  Bhuntar  Himachal Pradesh

It is an airport located in Bhuntar in Himachal Pradesh, India. The Kullu Manali Airport is located 11 km from Kullu and 52 km from Manali.

48) Birsa Munda International Airport  -  Ranchi  Jharkhand

It is also known as the Ranchi Airport, which is the primary airport serving the city of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. It is named after the Indian tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda and is currently operated by the Airport Authority of India.

49) Kishangarh Airport  -  Kishangarh  Rajasthan

Kishangarh Airport is situated at Kishangarh on National Highway 8 at a distance of 27 km North-East of Ajmer in Rajasthan, India. This airport was inaugurated on 11th of October in 2017. It is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

50) Pakyong Airport  -  Pakyong  Sikkim

Pakyong Airport is a greenfield airport located near Gangtok in the state capital of Sikkim, India. The airport is located at Pakyong town about 35km south of Gangtok and at a height of 4500 ft. Pakyong Airport is one of the five highest airports in the country.

51) Jay Prakash Narayan Airport  -  Patna  Bihar

Jay Prakash Narayan Airport is a type of customs airport which is located in Patna, the state capital of Bihar in India. This airport is named after the independence activist Shri Jayaprakash Narayan. The city of Patna is classified as a restricted international airport due to its short runway.


52) Gaya Airport  -  Gaya  Bihar

Gaya Airport, also known as Bodhgaya Airport, is a public airport serving the city of Gaya, Bihar in India. This airport is located at 12 kilometres South-West of Gaya and 5 kilometres away from the temple city of Bodhgaya which is popularly known as the Gautama Buddha's place of enlightenment.

53) Dabolim Airport  -  Dabolim  Goa

Dabolim Airport is the India's 10th-busiest airport by the overall passenger traffic. It is also known as Goa Airport which is located in Dabolim. This airport operates as a civil enclave in a military airbase named INS Hansa.

54) Pune Airport  -  Pune  Maharashtra

This airport is located approximately 10 km northeast of Pune in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is a civil enclave operated by the government owned Airports Authority of India at the eastern side of Lohegaon Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force.

55) Aurangabad Airport  -  Aurangabad  Maharashtra

It is a public airport located in the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India. This airport is located in east of the city center and around 11 km from the Aurangabad Railway Station, along the Aurangabad-Nagpur State Highway.

56) Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Airport  -  Nanded  Maharashtra

It is a public airport located in Nanded, in the state of Maharashtra, India. This airport was inaugurated on 4th of October in 2008 by the Union Aviation Minister.

57) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport  -  Nagpur  Maharashtra

It is an international airport serving the city of Nagpur in Maharashtra, India. The airport is located at Sonegaon which is in the South-West of Nagpur. The airport covers an area of 1355 acres. In 2005, this airport was named after B. R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport located in Mumbai is India's second-busiest airport by overall passenger traffic. This airport which is also known as by the name Sahar International Airport is the primary international airport serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Area in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

59) Kannur International Airport  -  Kannur  -  Kerala

Kannur Airport was inaugurated on December 9, 2018 and is spread across various cities, serving the northern districts of Kerala. As per the reports, it can handle around 2000 passengers at a time. With the inauguration of Kannur International Airport, Kerala has become the first state in India to have four international airports.

• The Airports Authority of India (AAI) owned by the Indian government, operates 122 airports and civil enclaves out of a total of 449 airports and airstrips located throughout in the country. About a number of less than 80 airports/aerodromes receive regular commercial flights.

• There are around 30 International Airports in India.
